Every third Sunday in June we celebrate the father figures in our lives. Did you know we should be reaching out to them for the entire month? Congress has declared the month of June to be National Men’s Health Month, spotlighting the week before Father’s Day as National Men’s Health Week.

“The purpose of Men’s Health Week is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.” Says Men’s Health Network. There are many fatal diseases that can be cured with early detection; routine check-ups help remedy any issues before they become a potential health hazard.

A list of common diseases that affect males most are: Heart Disease, Stroke, Lung and Prostate Cancer, Diabetes, and Erectile Dysfunction. All of which can either be treated or managed with early detection.

In hopes of inspiring a more active and healthy lifestyle in males, during the week leading up to dad’s big day, you may see an increase in health and wellbeing events in your area. Men, don’t be afraid to take action to establish a healthier, more active lifestyle. Your body will thank you in the years to come.
